Lion Gig
Added 05/11/2007

The Rakkiteers took a short notice booking at the Lion in Castleford yesterday covering for Top Gun, the band of our Jamie's twin sister Angie, who had to pull out due to illness - Get well soon Paul! This is the second time the band have played the Lion and it really is a cracking venue. Thanks to Julie the landlady, and all the crowd for giving us a great reception, and to Top Gun for passing the gig on. Below are some comments from the Rock Of The North website on the performance.

" ...The home of live music saw the RAKKITEERS blasting out red hot numbers from the KILLERS,STEREOPHONICS,GREEN DAY,OASIS,STONES,KINKS and many, many more in a fantastic double set of old and new songs. The first set was played to a handfull of diehard supporters but the LION faithfull soon filled the room for a stunning second set that saw JAMIE bouncing round the room thrashing her bass guitar within an inch of it's life, a stunning performance from this delightful young lady. DEANO,SOOTY,MARK and the lead guitarist CHRIS also put in superb performances to entertain a more than receptive crowd that bayed for more and kept them on stage for at least 4 encores. This band are roaring up the popularity charts and are well worth a looksee so catch them at the RotN CONVENTION this Saturday at SQUIRES....you won't be disappointed, I promise... " - Tony of Cas

" ...Hiya JimJam, yes i had sampled quite a number of the Lions finest carlsbergs through your set which i really enjoyed by the way (the set not lager, well i enjoyed the lager aswell as you could tell) and amazingly i remember most off our chat about the rally too i promiss to get your sisters band on the bill for 18 months time aswell the big ten year anniverary, god i can't believe i'm talking about an event that takes place well over a year away, thats if the police don't put any more restrictions on us they'll be banning smoking inside next what's the world coming, when i was a lad......G... " - Graham of Export

" ...I like the LION too, I also like the RAKKITEERS....very much, Julie & me agree on sumfin for once, the RAKKITEERS are up there in the premier league along with the likes of THE ERICS, HEAVY LOAD, TOPGUN etc... " - H from The Lion

Rockin The Polish
Added 25/10/2007

For the second time in a few weeks the band took to the stage of the Polish Club in Barnsley on Saturday, this time on the bill of the Rockin The Polish charity event in aid of Muscular Dystrophy. This is a charity close to the heart of the band, as two of singer Mark's children suffer the condition. The Rakkiteers took to the stage after opening band Mr. Chief got things off to a cracking start. Straight Razor Angels followed with a fantastic set of largely original material. The days entertainment was then concluded by the classic rock / metal cover band Metalworks. Metalworks guitarist Mick, who is an old bandmate of Deano and Chris from their Badgers days, had earlier taken charge of Deano's guitar during the Rakkiteers' set for a run through Paranoid. The event succeeded in raising £930 for the charity, and a good time was had by all. Thanks to Marcus from Mr. Chief, and Chris from Metalworks for doing the sound and providing the P.A. / lights, and to Mick from Metalworks for lending JimJam his bass amp. Below are excerpts from comments made on the Rock Of The North website about the Rakkiteers' performance. Further thanks to those who commented, and to those who complemented us on the day!

" ...Then i saw the Rakkitteers, first time ive seen them and thought they were ace. Nice to meet Jamie too. Gotta say these guys (and gal!) got the crowd into a frenzy down near the stage, all the rakitteerettes were going crazy!... " - Carl of Red Mosquito

Barnstock A Success
Added 31/08/2007

The Rakkiteers were among four bands taking the stage at the Polish Club in Barnsley on Bank Holiday Monday at the Barnstock charity event, which was held to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice. The event raised a total of £1004 for the Hospice, which provides palliative care to the terminally ill and their families. Many thanks to Gravedigger Bri for organising the event and asking us to play, Joe Lally and Marcus from Mr. Chief for doing the sound, Rock Of The North for providing the backline and P.A., Top Gun for use of their drum kit, and above all the crowd for giving us such a good reception. Below are excerpts from comments made on the Rock Of The North website about the day, and the Rakkiteers' performance. Further thanks to those who commented, and to those who complemented us on the day!

" ...Is there anything left for me to say??? NO, apart from GRAVE DIGGER BRI deserves a medal for taking the chance and putting on BARNSTOCK so do ROCK of the NORTH for adding their support and helping in making the event the fantastic success it was. ALL the bands were incredible and the sound was superb, you ALL deserve a massive pat on the back for a momentus days/nights entertainment. RAKKITEERS....OPTIC NERVE (firing on all cylinders)....TOPGUN (missed OFS) were the dogs b******s, Thanks PAUL for the T and thanks JAMIE and ANGIE for the smiles... " - Tony of Cas

" ...Enter THE RAKKITEERS and a chance to see another band thats a first for me, and also to catch JAMIE, twin sister, of TOPGUNS ANGIE, another great bassist that adds a twist of glam to the low note dept. MARK's an energetic frontman in a league of his own, and SOOTY, who smacks the pots n pans for them is my bloody postman. Its a small world. They were great... " - Mark of True Brit

" ...The Rakkiteers were not halted by a broken string early in the set and this superb band rattled through old punk and rock classics with modern stuff thrown in for good measure. Great to see a band enjoying what they play, even the bass player was giving bass tuition to small children during some of the songs, recommend those who haven't seem them to get down and take a look... " - Jimmy of Darton

" ...The Rakkiteers are like old mates now and as ever was fab to see and watch em - top guys and the fabulous Jamie... " - Sue of One Fat Spider

Lion Gig
Added 14/08/2007

The Rakkiteers would like to thank everyone who has complemented the band on their performance at the Lion, Castleford on Sunday evening. The positive feedback has been quite overwhelming. The whole band thoroughly enjoyed the evening at this excellent venue, and were made to feel very welcome by both staff and customers. The band were even joined onstage by Jamie's twin sister Angie from the band Top Gun, who took charge of Jamie's bass for a run through Hard To Handle. Below is an excerpt from a comment made by Tony of Cas, on the Rock Of The North website - thanks Tony!

" ... I've saved the best while last....over in the LION.........The RAKKITEERS rocked (and shocked) everybody to their socks!! I don't know what I was expecting before I clocked this lot but they were very, very good. They catered for every taste and performed with real attitude, they WILL go a long way performing like that and to a man... the whole of the LION was asking the question, Why haven't they been on here before? these are f*****g brill! (a bit like Friday night!) JULIE the landlady loved the band. TOPGUN and RAKKITEERS have the twin towers of bass in their presence ANGIE and JAMIE and they both add that extra bit of va va voom to the whole proceedings (and they both can really drive their bands along) it was a pleasure to watch and listen to on both nights. It is difficult to compliment a beautiful woman without sounding pervy or creepy, but rock on girls you've got the lot! and JAMIE I LOVED your SHARONA!!!... "

The Great Flood
Added 16/06/2007

The bands gig at the Northfield Hotel in South Kirkby last night turned into the biggest washout since Noah gathered his menagerie, as much of South Yorkshire ended up underwater due to severe flooding. The two hours it took to travel the ten miles to South Kirkby saw the band play to a handful of punters who had braved the weather for the evening. Cheers to everyone who made it! Below is an account of the evening from Rakkiteers bassist JimJam!

" Hi there you lot! how many detours did I have to make last night?? We were playing in South Kirkby.. the Northfield Hotel.. its a good venue.. the audience a bit on the thin side, but it were raining like cats and dogs all day.. did you hear the thunder??? I were unloading mi car and a big bolt went over me I nearly dropped mi Ampeg as I were running in't venue.. I'm scared of thunder and lightning... on our way home, the main road in Darfield was completely flooded by the river so we had to go back over the bypass at Brampton.. we got to this little bridge on Wombwell Lane and that were flooded too, a copper told me I were to drive thru the middle and take it steady.. I were sh***ing myself! it were right deep!! but we got home safe!! This morning I looked at my car and its got seaweed in the grill!! Anyways enuff of the weather report, I'm looking forward to our gig @ the Coach and Horses int tarn, get yerselves down there if yer in the area. Later dudes!! "

The Changing Of The Guard
Added 13/04/2007

The batton, or mic stand, was literally passed on last night at the Coach & Horses, Barnsley, as Neil performed his last gig with the Rakkiteers, and new singer Mark performed his first. Neil 'Miffy Balboa' Smith, of Barnsley original music band Fish Dam Lane, has been filling in as vocalist for the Rakkiteers until the spot could be filled on a permanent basis. This we did two weeks ago with the recruitment of Marko. Neil performed the first set before handing over the mic to Mark with an emotional farewell that would have made Gwyneth Paltrow blush...OK maybe not! Mark then took the reins for the second set and made a remarkable debut, considering he'd only had a fortnight to learn the material. He was slighted aided however by strategically placed lyric sheets stuck to every available surface. We now have three weeks of rehearsal before Mark's first full gig at the Spencers Arms, Barugh Green on 6th May. See ya there!

New Vocalist Recruited
Added 31/03/2007

The Rakkiteers have now recruited a permanent vocalist in the shape of Marko, formerly of the club band White Lightning. Mark is currently learning the set, and will be performing with the band as soon as he is up to speed. Everyone in the Rakkiteers would like to take the opportunity to thank Neil 'Miffy Balboa' Smith of Barnsley original music band Fish Dam Lane, who has been filling in whilst we recruited a permanent vocalist. Cheers Miffy - you're a star!

Rakkiteers Make Their Debut
Added 24/03/2007

Well here we are, a new band and a new site. The Rakkiteers, or 4/5 of them at least made their debut last night at a private function held for a friend of the band at the Hospital Club, Barnsley. Unfortunately rhythm guitarist Deano had to miss the gig due to illness (f**king typical innit, I were sick as a parrot - Deano), but the band soldiered on as a four piece. The rest of the band is made up of Chris on lead guitar, JimJam on bass, and Sooty on drums. The band are currently joined by Neil 'Miffy Balboa' Smith of Barnsley original music band Fish Dam Lane, who is filling in on vocals until a permanent singer can be recruited. The band first jammed together approximately four weeks ago and it was immediately obvious we were onto a good thing. So when the opportunity to do the Hospital Club came up we jumped at the chance, despite the amount of work needed to get the setlist together in the time available. Do yourself a favour and get down to a gig sometime - ya won't regret it!
